Grape Agate / Chalcedony

They may not be actual grapes... but this wild mineral specimen does form in botryoidal crystals which means “bunch of grapes” (or looks like a bunch of little grapes). This incredible specimen comes from Indonesia and has a lovely sparkly sheen. Specimens with this glittery luster represent a more rare and higher quality crystal than other Grape Chalcedony on the market. Despite its trade name of "Grape Agate", this purple powerhouse is actually a Chalcedony.

Agate and Chalcedony are both in the Quartz family, and both are microcrystalline quartz. However, a chemical analysis showed that the composition is more Chalcedonic Quartz, so really this should be called "Grape Chalcedony".

The Grape Chalcedony forms within andesite pillow lava. It is believed that when the lava interacted with the islands cold seawater, it rapidly cooled leaving voids between pillows. It is within these pillow spaces of the host rock that the Chalcedony eventually formed.

Approx. 3.5" H x 3" W x 2" Deep

Need a display stand?

If you would like a clear acrylic stand to display your specimen horizontally with a slight tilt forward, we recommend adding Stand A2 to your cart. If you prefer to display your specimen vertically with a slight tilt forward, we recommend adding Stand B1
