Petrified Wood Dish

A dark and dreamy piece of petrified wood from Indonesia that can double as a display piece or a dish / shallow bowl. Petrified wood forms when a tree falls and is rapidly buried by sediment such as volcanic ash or river sediments. This creates a reduced oxygen environment (anaerobic) which halts the usual decay process. Minerals carried through the flow of water and absorbed into the tree slowly began to replace the organic material and crystallize. Over hundreds and thousands of years this crystallization took place hardening into stone. This petrified wood dish is dated at approximately 20 million years old. The top of this piece has been polished into a shallow dish shape, the bottom has a cut flat base to rest beautifully on any surface. The sides have been left raw so that you can still see the gorgeous natural bark formation of the tree.

Approx. 8" L x 7.5" W x 2" H
