It may look like a scale from a rainbow colored dragon, but this piece of Ammolite shell comes from the shell of an Ammonite, a fossil that is approximately 70 million years old. This piece has the full rainbow of colors, including blues and purples (the most rare of the colors). The rare gem quality of the iridescent ammonite shell has earned its own classification as Ammolite. This incredible natural occurrence is a a result of mineralization during the fossilization process. Found in Alberta, Canada, this exceptional quality specimen sometimes referred to as "Dragonskin" has been lightly polished and displays beautifully as is. The back is flat with smooth sides that could also be used in jewelry making.
Approx. 3"H x .4"W x 1.4"L
