An absolutely stunning cut and polished ammonite pair from Madagascar. Ammonites are an extinct group of sea creatures. This ammonite, a Cleoniceras, was thriving during the Cretaceous Period approximately 110 million years ago. The ammonite shells are cut in half and polished to display the incredible mineralization which has occurred within their growth chambers. With this particular specimen, calcite began to infill the once hollow growth chambers. Some chambers completed filled with calcite, while others still exhibit individual calcite crystal pockets. A magnificent and show stopping fossil pair.
Approx. 8.5" L x 0.75" W x 7" H
