This absolutely phenomenal cut and polished ammonite pair comes from Madagascar. Ammonites are an extinct group of sea creatures. This ammonite, a Cleoniceras, was thriving during the Cretaceous Period approximately 110 million years ago. The ammonite shells are cut in half to display the beautiful mineralization which has occurred within their growth chambers. With this particular specimen, calcite began to infill the once hollow growth chambers. Some chambers completed filled with calcite, while others still exhibit individual calcite crystal pockets. The back displays beautiful dendritic suture markings.
Approx. 8.25" L x 0.75" W x 6.5" H
