Copal Amber

It's an amber dolphin! Or is it a spaceship? It's whatever you want it to be, but with all the insects trapped in this copal amber, you'll be able to build your own Jurassic Park! We're just kidding, but there really are loads of insects to explore. Copal amber (or young amber) is a different classification of tree resin than ancient amber. Ancient amber tends to be quite a bit older, and has "crystallized" or solidified to a harder point than copal amber. Found in Madagascar, tree resin which has been exuded from the tree either for defense purposes or as a healing mechanism following damage, has solidified into copal amber. Insects on the tree or attracted by the sticky resin have become encapsulated in geologic time.
