This stunning ammonite fossil plate comes from the Holzmaden Shale formation in Germany. Ammonites are an extinct group of sea creatures which thrived during the Jurassic Period approximately 180 million years ago. This plate has two types of ammonites. The extra large ammonite is a Harpoceras, and the smaller ammonite is a Dactylioceras. The ammonites have mineralized with a pyrite coating giving it a rich brass color which contrasts beautifully against the deep shale background.
Approx. 19.5" L x 1" W x 17.5" H
