Large Pyritized Dactylioceras Ammonite Fossil Plate
This Dactylioceras ammonite fossil plate comes from the Holzmaden Shale (also known as the Posidonia Shale) formation in Germany. This plate has three highly detailed Dactylioceras ammonites of different sizes, beautifully displayed across the dark shale matrix. The ammonites have naturally mineralized with a pyrite coating, giving it a rich brass color. Ammonites are an extinct group of sea creatures which thrived during the Jurassic Period approximately 180 million years ago.
*Note: The back of this fossil plate has a pre-drilled hole allowing it to be mounted onto a wall. If wall-mounting, it is recommended to do so into a stud or other load-bearing area. To display on a shelf or mantle, the recommended stand size is listed below.
