Pyritized Ammonite Fossil Plate with Dactylioceras

$55.00

The perfect double Ammonite fossil plate from the Holzmaden Shale in Germany. It features a common variety of Ammonite found at this location, Dactylioceras sp. The shale matrix is meticulously removed to expose the Ammonite fossils hiding underneath which have been naturally replaced by the mineral Pyrite. The bright brass coloration and detailed texture of the Ammonite fossils creates a lovely contrast against the dark shale rock matrix.

Ammonites are an extinct group of sea creatures which thrived during the Jurassic Period approximately 180 million years ago.

Approx. 4" H x 4" W x .5" D
