This beautiful "snow-capped" Amethyst crystal comes from the Karur region of India. The vivid, deep purple Amethyst crystal is topped with a layer of white Quartz, creating a lovely crystal combination that resembles a snow-covered mountain peak.
Typically, Amethyst from this locality is cut into cabochons for use in jewelry due to its unique cross-sectional color zoning (see example cross-section photo). When illuminated from behind, the crystal exhibits a beautiful purple glow. The reverse side of the crystal has a slightly pink hue at the top due to a thin layer of iron mineralization.
