A snapshot in geologic time, this fossil fish plate comes from the Lake Gosuite Deposit of Sweetwater County, Wyoming. Dated at approximately 48 million years old, the excellent preservation of detail looks like the fish could swim off the rock!
This variety of fish is thought to be Knightia alta, a variety of herring fish.
