A golden yellow Calcite crystal collected pre-1970, from the famous Tri-State Mining District, USA. This mineral specimen features crisp terminations, a scalenohedral or "Stellar Beam" Calcite shape, and golden orange-yellow color.

The Tri-State Mining District encompasses nearly 2,000 square miles of lead and zinc deposits in the southeastern corner of Kansas, southwestern Missouri, and northeastern Oklahoma.

With thousands of small-scale shallow mines historically present throughout this region, the area is often labeled as "Tri-State Mining District". This area not only produced important ore, but some fabulous mineral specimens over it's 120 year mining history from the early 1850's until the early 1970's.

Due to the shallow depth of the deposit, and its proximity to the equally shallow water-table, the mines in this region are no longer accessible to collecting due to flooding and cave-in's. Making pre-1970's specimens like this true collector pieces.

This specimen displays well from multiple angles, and even fluoresces under UV light!
