360 degrees of Double terminated Quartz crystals cris-cross this mineral specimen from the Camp Bird Mine near Ouray, Colorado. The elongated Quartz crystals clustered together on this piece feature double terminated ends or "DT's".
Double termination occurs when the crystals form free-floating within a pocket or are attached to another crystal or side-wall in such a way which allows for terminations (ends of growth) on two ends instead of just one, which is more typical for Quartz.
The Camp Bird Mine was a very successful historic gold mine, named for the "camp birds" like magpies and gray jays which used to hang around the mining camps searching for food the miners left behind.
