Petrified Wood - Colorado
Wild patterns and colors abound on this piece of Petrified Wood from Parker, Colorado. The lovely contrast of light and dark minerals is a result of the natural fracturing and shrinking of the original wood, allowing the fractures to infill with minerals such as silica (quartz) and agate during the permineralization process, creating a beautiful mosaic pattern.
For this reason, varieties of petrified wood like this are sometimes referred to as "shrink wood". Dated at approx. 55 million years old, this Petrified Wood will surely add some intrigue to your collection!
This specimen features a polished front, natural sides, and a flat-cut base allowing it to stand perfectly on a shelf or desk.
