The perfect pair, a positive and negative imprint of a fossilized fern from the Carbondale Formation in Coal City, Illinois. This species of fern, a Laveineopteris rarinervis is dated to the Pennsylvanian Period approximately 300 million years old. The stunning detail of this fern fossil is the perfect snapshot into a geologic time period filled with abundant plant life.
