A colossal crystallized Fossilized Coral specimen from the Withlacoochee River area in Florida. This majestic mix of mineral and fossil showcases the awesome power of geologic time. Sparkling Quartz crystal caves featuring an almost stalactite quality can be seen both on the front and back of this spectacular specimen.
Dated at approximately 20 to 40 million years old, this variety of coral lived during the Eocene to Miocene Period. Empty voids within the coral were naturally replaced with silica-rich mineralization in the form of Quartz crystals and Chalcedony. Fossilized coral once a part of the ancient coastline of Florida is now discovered inland near the Withlacoochee River. The fossil coral was cut and polished on the front and back, with the edges remaining in the raw and natural state to show off the natural growth structure.
Approx. 13.5" H x 8.25" W x 1.25" Deep
