Petrified Wood Slab

This Petrified Wood slab comes from Indonesia and features a dark gray and black center that beautifully contrasts with the natural earth-tones and almost tiger-striped appearance of the stone. Both the front and back showcase the rock's mineralization, making it perfect to display horizontally or vertically. The top and bottom have been cut and polished, while the sides are left in their natural state, allowing you to feel the original tree bark undulations.

The process of petrification occurs when a tree falls and is quickly buried under sediment like volcanic ash or river sediments, creating an anaerobic environment that stops the decay process. Minerals carried by water slowly replace the tree's organic material and crystallize over hundreds and thousands of years, effectively hardening into stone. This particular petrified wood slice is estimated to be around 20 million years old.
