Blue Fluorite on Quartz

While it may look like a tower of crystallized blueberries, this is actually an unusual formation of blue Fluorite crystals from the Huanggang Deposit of Inner Mongolia, China. The Fluorite crystals exhibit an unusual rhombododecahedron or dodecahedron beveling with deep hoppering and smoothed faces that make them look like blueberries!

But how are they stacked this way? Well, the Fluorite crystals are actually a secondary crystallization which occurred on top of a large Quartz crystal. When inverted, you can see the outline of the Quartz crystal hiding underneath.

The unique hue of Fluorite appears to change color under different lighting conditions, transitioning from royal blue, to navy blue, to indigo blue, to an almost teal blue depending on the light!

Approx: 3.5" H x 2.25" W x 1.5" D
