Rare Golden Calcite Concretion with Ammonite Fossil

A one-of-a-kind combination of crystals and fossils, this amazing specimen of Golden Calcite Concretion and Ammonite fossil comes from Utah. The bright golden-yellow Calcite crystals are surrounded by dark brown Aragonite crystals. The more angular cracks and cavity separations are called "septaria". Some refer to this Golden Calcite formation as a "septarian concretion". What is the difference between a geode and a concretion? Read more here!

But what makes this specimen truly unique is the crystallized fossil Ammonite inside. While it is not uncommon to find concretions such as this forming around Ammonite shells, what makes it truly rare are the full crystals of Calcite and Aragonite seen on the inside of the growth chambers of the Ammonite. Concretions from this location containing Ammonites are nearly always completely infilled with mineralization. Never before has one been seen with individual crystals inside, making this an exceptionally rare and stunning specimen.

Expert cutting and polishing reveals the Ammonite fossil both inside and out of the concretion, with the exterior showing lovely suture markings. The front of the piece has been cut and polished to a high gloss finish. The sides and back have been left in their natural state. Extra bonus: When exposed to a UV flashlight, this piece fluoresces (see photos for details)!

This piece has a flat-cut base and is self-standing.
