Petrified Wood Boron, California
This vibrant red and earth-toned specimen of Petrified Wood comes from the Boron Dry Lake, Gem Hill Formation of Kern County, California. Dated at Miocene age (approx. 5 to 20 million years old), this is a "younger" variety of Petrified Wood with some interesting mineralization. While most red Petrified Wood is a result of iron inclusions, specimens from this locality are red as a result of the mineral cinnabar!
The front of the specimen has been polished to a high gloss finish. Natural bark textures can be felt along the edges, and the back. It has a flat-cut base allowing it to self-stand on any display shelf.
